Current mood: morose

I need the help of people less retarded than me when it comes to popular culture - namesly, my beloved Flist.

I'm making a list of films and television series that have wolves and werewolves in them, preferably in a terrifying way. So far I have:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Werewolf of London

An American Werewolf in London/Paris

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

A Company of Wolves

Van Helsing

The Neverending Story

Can anyone suggest some more?

ETA: oh, and picture books would be good, like Gaiman's Woves in the Wall. The scarier the better. I'm after imaginary, villainous wolves.

IIRC Twilight has some werewolves in it.

Very UK-centric: BBC series Being Human stars a werewolf, and I've read a werewolf book and a half by an author called Kit Whitfield.

Being Human is adorable. Not brilliant, just charming and cute.

'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe'...although that is terrifying only if you are five years old.

I'll keep thinking...nothing springin to mind immediately.

I certainly found them terrifying in the book, when I was seven or eight. I don't actually remember them in the movie, which I suppose says something.

Thanks. I'd only looked at the Werewolves wikipedia page. I might have known there'd be a more relevant one, hiding.

I have a nice French movie called Brotherhood of the Wolf which is both a good film and totally relevant procrastination if you want a break?

Just steal it from my shelf. It's under 'B', naturally.

ETA: Why the Hell is it not listed in the 'Wolves in fiction' wikiedia page under film?

Well, that's easily fixed.

Mild spoiler:

****

Probably because the monster turns out not to be technically canine at all.

But there is a bunch of stuff in there about wolves as an agent of fear, and some freaky canine taxidermy, so it might still be worth checking out.

I remembered that not so insignificant plot point shortly after I posted! Still, there are wolves in it, and just because it's not a wolf wolf doesn't mean it shouldn't qualify. (Hooray for triple negatives!)

Ginger Snaps is apparently a teen horror flick about werewolves and getting your period (review here, I haven't seen the movie).

Other than that I'm mental blanking.

Oh, no, wait, there was that young adult picture book last year Woolvs in the Sitee, that was allegorical terrifying urban wolves.

Silver Bullet (Stephen King adaptation)
Skinwalkers
Cursed (Wes Craven film)
The Wolfman (will come out in 2010 so it might not help, but it looks great!)

And one of the ladies from my writing group just lent me Promise Of The Wolves by Dorothy Hearst. Can't vouch for it cos I haven't read it but apparently it's part of a series.

Plus Michael J Fox was in a movie called Teen Wolf, I think. And there was some series I read when I was young and stoopid which bored me greatly ... oh yes, the Silver Wolf trilogy by Alice Borchardt.

And of course I'm sure Smart Bitches et al would put you onto a whole lot of paranormal/shapeshifting romance. :p I'm verrah tempted by Nalini Singh's series but only cos she's Indian and I'm curious ... *snort*

Also I have a couple of werewolf porn pics if you so feel the need to possess/view. Mind you, I'm still on the lookout for more. There seems to be a serious dearth of werewolf graphic porn on the interwebz or perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong places. *le sigh*

Terry Pratchett's City Watch books, particularly "Fifth Elephant"
Fables (natch) (the graphic book series) (later volumns even have cute baby werewolves)
Laurel K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry books (um, but not for kids)

"Wolf", 1994, Columbia Pictures, staring Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer and some extremely bad special effects

If we're allowing Laurell K, then her Anita Blake books are equally if not more wolfy. But also not for kids. Or adults with taste.

Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series contains wolves, and 'wolfbrothers' - men who can communicate with wolves. Wolfbrothers also develop wolf-like instincts: their eyes change colour, they develop better vision, hearing, sense of smell...

There were some cool things about wolves that wolfbrothers shared. The ability to communicate mind-to-mind, the ability to enter the 'world of dreams', where you could see glimpses of the past, present and future...

Somehow I doubt that's enough to convince you to invest in reading 12 books... ;)

I have sworn NEVER to read 'Wheel of Time'. NEVER! ;)

I'm actually not after books, because I think people would find them boring in a museum exhibition. I think everyone assumed I meant books too, because, well, this is me, after all.
